Bathroom

Having a toilet in good working order is something we often take for granted, until strange noises start emanating from it. If your normally mild-mannered lavatory has become unusually vocal, it’s time to listen up. It’s trying to tell you that something isn’t quite right and needs your attention. The good news is that the kind of sound your toilet is making, from subtle hissing to dramatic bangs, can help you to identify the probable issue. While some problems can be addressed yourself, others are best left to professionals. Fortunately,
plumbers Brisbane locals recommend are just a call away to keep things flowing smoothly.

The Sssssslow Leak

If your toilet is constantly hissing like an angry snake, it might indicate a faulty fill valve, a worn flapper or high water pressure. The sound you hear is caused by water rushing through small openings or partially closed valves inside the tank. The fast-moving water creates vibrations that produce the steady hissing noise.

The Porcelain Percolator

A gurgling or bubbling sound after flushing often signals a clogged drain or blocked vent pipes. Your toilet is basically burping as it struggles to breath. Your first step is to try a plunger, but if the noise sticks around it’s time to call in a plumber to take a closer look.

The Phantom Flusher

If your toilet flushes on its own, don’t worry, it’s not haunted! You likely have a worn flapper or a faulty flush valve which is letting water leak from the tank into the toilet bowl. A simple way to check this is to add a few drops of food colouring to the tank and watching to see if it leaks into the toilet bowl without flushing.

The Loo Lagoon

A constant trickle of running water might be relaxing outdoors, but it is distinctly less so when it’s coming from your ensuite. Not only is it annoying to listen to, but it’s also likely to turbo-charge your water bill. Checking and replacing the flapper or adjusting the float can often fix the problem but you might need professional leaking toilet repair to replace damaged parts and stop the waste for good.

The Bathroom Bagpipes

If it sounds like Moaning Myrtle has moved into your bathroom it might be time to replace the fill valves. The high-pitched screeching or sharp whistling usually means that the fill valve or its washers are worn out. It sounds awful, but it’s a common, easily fixed issue.

The Bathroom Blitz

A sudden BANG! Or BOOM! after you flush means that your pipes are declaring war, and its time for you to call in the big guns. This shockwave sound is called ‘water hammer’ and happens when water suddenly stops or changes direction inside the pipes. Fixes include installing water hammer arrestors, securing loose pipes or adjusting water pressure.

Strange toilet noises are early warning signs of plumbing problems that can waste water, damage your pipes and lead to costly repairs if ignored. Understanding what these noises mean and taking appropriate action can save you both money and stress in the long run.
